DRC Lawmakers Inspect MMG Kinsevere Mine to Review Community and Environmental Compliance

DRC Parliament Oversight Mission Evaluates MMG Kinsevere Mining Operations and Community Projects

A delegation of national deputies from the Standing Committee on Environment, Tourism, Natural Resources, and Sustainable Development of the National Assembly conducted an inspection visit on Thursday last week to the Kinsevere mining site in Lualaba Province, operated by MMG.

The visit was part of a broader oversight mission to monitor mining sites across Lualaba and Haut-Katanga.

Led by Honorable Bokele Djema Adrien, the eleven-member parliamentary team assessed the company’s compliance with its legal obligations under the Mining Code—particularly the implementation of community development projects outlined in its specifications and adherence to environmental standards.

The MMG Kinsevere management team welcomed the delegation and presented progress made during the first five-year cycle of its community development commitments. These included multiple projects benefiting local communities, as well as an overview of the company’s environmental mitigation plan.

The visit featured a detailed briefing, a tour of the Electrowinning (EW) treatment plant, and an inspection of the water discharge point, where lawmakers evaluated the quality of water released into the environment.

The delegation also traveled to the nearby villages of Kilongo and Kalilanda to assess the direct impact of MMG’s social and infrastructure programs on local residents.

This oversight mission reflects the National Assembly’s role in ensuring that mining operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo align with responsible and sustainable practices. Lawmakers stressed the importance of balancing mining investment with corporate social responsibility and environmental protection—consistent with the President of the Republic’s vision for the sector.
